Norfolk Environmental Commission
Members of the Norfolk Environmental Commission accepting the award for Model Level Riverstar from the Elizabeth River Project. Mission: To lead citizens toward environmental stewardship This Commission, volunteer citizens appointed by City Council, includes representatives selected from the following major segments of the city: citizen interest, business and industry, professions, communications, schools, armed forces, and community organizations. Ex officio members with no voting authority are appointed from the municipal operations staff representing the director of public works, the superintendent of waste management, the director of public health, the environmental services manager, and the stormwater engineer. Advises the Director of Public Works on matters affecting the quality of the local environment. The board elects a chair, two vice-chairs, and any other necessary officers. Terms are for three years. The Norfolk Environmental Commission meets at 5:00pm the third Tuesday of each month at the Ernie Morgan Center. Meetings are open to the public.
